Why this is like it is.

What Is This?

WHO PLAYS WHERE is a basic live music listing. There are no videos, no band bios, no photos — none of that. It's just like the music listings you used to see in your alt-weeklies.

Where Do You Get Your Information From, Huh?

I get the listing info by looking at web sites. I currently check the calendars of the following venues and organizations:

191 Toole | Arizona Friends of Chamber Music | Arizona Opera | Bar Passé | Borderlands | Casino Del Sol | Catalina Craft Pizza | Che's Lounge | Chicago Bar | Club XS | Crooked Tooth Brewing Co. | Cushing Street Bar | D&D Pinball | Delectables | Desertview Performing Arts Center | Eddie's Cocktails | El Saguarito | Elliot's | Ermanos | Exo Bar | Fini's Landing | Flycatcher | Fred Fox School of Music | Galactic Center | Gaslight Music Hall | Growlers Taphouse | Hacienda Del Sol | Hotel Congress | House of Bards | In Concert Tucson | La Cocina | Loudhouse | Mercado San Agustin | Monterey Court | Noble Hops | Owls Club | Playground Bar and Lounge | Public Brewhouse | R Bar | Rockabilly Grill | Royal Sun | Saint Charles Tavern | Sea of Glass | Shooter's Steakhouse and Saloon | Sky Bar | Solar Culture | Surly Wench | Tap and Bottle | Tap and Bottle North | The Coronet | The Dusty Monk Pub | The Edge Bar | The Fox Theatre | The Hut | The Maverick | The Parish | The Rialto Theatre | The Rock | Tucson Symphony Orchestra | UA Presents |

I check calendars two weeks out, and display listings one week out, so I hope to be as complete as possible. I check the calendars in one big batch on Tuesdays, and I spot update here and there throughout the week as it occurs to me, or when people submit listings.

How Is It Organized?

We need a little categorization, or the list would just be impossible to look at, so I've drawn some lines between a few things. I sort by part of town, specifically Downtown vs. Not Downtown. I may expand on that as time goes by. Additionally, I have classical and U of A events in their own category.

What About Sorting By Genre?

Right now I'm gonna say oh hell no to that. When I think of all the ways I could get that wrong, and of all the ways I could get it wrong in an extremely offensive manner … yeah no. Maybe some day.

So That's About It

I'm going to keep it up for a bit and see if I can work it into the daily routine. I'm sure I'll miss a few things here and there, but I hope to have something worthwhile.

If there's anything you can think of that would make this better, let me know by dropping me an email at playswherewho@gmail.com .

Thanks, and I hope to see you out at the show.
